The Samajwadi Party on Monday demonstrated against the rising electricity bills and other problems related to power supply due to the smart meters being installed in Jalaun and submitted a memorandum to the district administration demanding a solution. Many senior leaders and workers, including the district president of the party, reached the collectorate regarding this issue and apprised the administrative officials of the problems of the public.
The party leaders said
The party leaders said that many problems are arising regarding electricity in the district, due to which there is widespread anger among the general public. He said that if these problems are not resolved soon, the party will be forced to intensify the protest in the coming days.

In the memorandum
In the memorandum, the Samajwadi Party made smart meter the most prominent issue. He alleges that after the smart meters being installed in the district, there has been an unexpected and excessive increase in the electricity bills of the consumer. The party says that the general public is unable to pay these bills and there is deep resentment against smart meters. They demand that the process of installing smart meters should be stopped immediately until its transparency and accuracy is ensured. The party also raised serious objections to the checking campaigns run by the electricity department after 6 pm.
They argue that checking at this time poses a threat to the safety of citizens. Taking advantage of the darkness, anyone can enter someone’s house illegally and harass them in the name of ‘fake checking’. This can put the safety of families, especially women and the elderly, in danger. The open electric wires lying on the roadsides in the cities were described as a serious danger. The party leaders said that these wires can cause a major accident at any time.
During the rainy season, the risk of electric shock and fire increases even more. They demanded immediate repair of all these open wires and making safe arrangements. Drawing attention to the problems of farmers, the party demanded that the tubewell lines of farmers be repaired immediately and they be ensured 24 hours uninterrupted power supply for crop irrigation.

He said that due to lack of electricity
He said that due to lack of electricity, the crops of farmers are getting spoiled, due to which they are suffering huge financial losses. In the end, the party stressed that keeping in view the interest of farmers and public, power distribution should not be privatized. They believe that privatization will further increase the prices of electricity and it will go out of the reach of the common man.
